Celebrating Byron’s Butchers: Mullum’s Meat-Heritage Exhibition

If you’ve ever wandered into the butcher with an appreciative nod for the craft behind that perfect cut, this is one not to miss.
The Brunswick Valley Historical Society’s museum in Mullumbimby is launching an exhibition honouring 100 years of the butchering trade across Mullumbimby, Billinudgel, Brunswick Heads and Ocean Shores — including the humble beginnings of the regional meat-pools at Main Arm, Wilsons Creek and Tyagarah-Myocum.

Held at 17 Myokum Street, Mullumbimby,

the opening event takes place on Friday, 24 October, from 5.30 pm onwards.

And yes — a barbecue and bar will mark the occasion:

good food, good company, and a warm celebration of a craft we believe in.

Whether you’re a butcher, meat-lover, historian or simply curious, this event reminds us how much the local meat trade has shaped our communities. For anyone who has tied on an apron, sharpened a knife, or simply counted on the butcher’s recommendation for the perfect piece – this exhibition is for you.

Join us for an evening of heritage, stories and good food. And if you can’t make the opening night, be sure to drop by the Mullumbimby Museum and check out the exhibition.

Stay meat-mindful!
